Iran, Azerbaijan to expand media cooperation

Officials from Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan underlined the need for expanding mutual cooperation during a meeting in the Azeri capital city of Baku.

In the meeting, held on Tuesday, the sides agreed that the two nations need more collaboration in different fields, especially in media.

Iranian Deputy Culture Minister Hossein Entezami and Head of Azerbaijan's Azertac News Agency Aslan Aslanov attended the meeting in the Azeri capital and explored the potential ways to boost and strengthen the joint media relations.

Referring to cultural and religious commonalities between the two nations, Entezami said broadening media relations between Iran and Azerbaijan can have a positive influence on ties between the countries and lead to the development of relations in different sectors.

For his part, Aslanov verified Entezami’s notes and said Azertac is seeking to deepen its ties with well-known media across the world, including the Iranian ones.

Tehran and Baku had planned to employ each and every potential to pave the way for further expansion of Tehran-Baku press cooperation during a relevant development in early April 2015.

A high-ranking delegation from the Republic of Azerbaijan arrived in Tehran at the time to explore the country's economic as well as cultural potentials and tourism attractions.

The delegation also visited touristic sites in the northern Iranian provinces of Mazandaran and Golestan.

Head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) Abouzar Ebrahimi announced in December that Tehran and Baku are to broaden mutual cooperation, especially in culture.

Recently, Tehran has focused more on expansion of relations with adjacent states, including the Republic of Azerbaijan which shares lots of religious, historical and cultural commonalties with Iran.
